My top 5 favourite blog designs right now
Whilst contemplating the ongoing redesign of this blog, I have looked at other blogs to see what they are doing and what appeals the most to me. Below is a list of my top 5 favourite blogs right now, in no particular order. Some of them may not be new but that isn’t the point.
Simon Collison
I love how unusual this design is compared to any other blog on the web right now. Also it is adaptive, so looks great on smart phones, ipads and desktop screens.
Andy Clarke
Andy very recently stripped back the design of his site to bring the focus back to his writing. To me, this site offers everything I look for in a blog, and more.
Paul Robert Lloyd
Another of 2011′s redesigns, Paul has done a great job of bringing the focus back to his writing whilst simultaneously managing to showcase his work.
Elliot Jay Stocks
For Elliot, this is a rather stripped back affair, but one thing this site doesn’t lack is elegance. Again, the focus is strongly placed on Elliots writing, which after all, is the point of a blog.
Jonathan Snook
Jonathan’s blog has long been a source of inspiration to me, particularly in regards to content, however his current design really stands out to me with its subtle textures and again, focus on writing.
So what have I learned from these designs
The one thing that all of these sites have in common is their clear sense of purpose. There is no question what any of these sites are or what they are trying to achieve. Of course these are all renowned designers so we shouldn’t really expect anything less, however they do serve as a shining example as to what is really important when it comes to design.
